We are excited to take 20 young people from Wiluna to Meekatharra for a Sports Day built around energy, connection, and opportunity. This is more than just a day of games — it is exactly what our young people have told us they want! Through recent youth questionnaires in Wiluna, the strongest and most consistent message was clear: they want more football and more chances to play against other teams.
In remote communities, these opportunities are rare. Distance, time, and limited resources make it difficult for young people to experience organised sport beyond their own town. This Sports Day creates a chance to break that isolation, even if only for one day, and replace it with excitement, teamwork, and healthy competition.
The Wiluna–Meekatharra Sports Day will bring communities together through sport, laughter, and shared pride. It will encourage physical activity, build confidence, and strengthen friendships across towns. Most importantly, it shows our young people that their voices matter — that when they speak about their wants and needs, we listen and act.
By creating space for connection, movement, and joy, this event supports not just healthy bodies, but strong, engaged, and hopeful young people.

The Turquoise Coast Youth Festival is an annual event run by the Shire of Dandaragan, first held in 2015. Youth pushed for something to be done about the old skatepark as it was bland and wasn’t very inviting. To connect and engage youth, kids were invited to spray the old skatepark and a festival was held around the area to connect and engage youth. The festival started to get bigger as it evolved over the years which is when it moved to Fauntleroy Park. This event is led by youth and is always well received by the community.

This project is a youth-led initiative designed for girls and young women aged 14–24 from CaLD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) backgrounds. Ishar will run a youth week event during youth week, on a Friday after school for maximum participation. At the event we will source an external facilitator to deliver an interactive workshop such as a creative arts activity and our Ishar Coordinator will facilitate the event and program planning alongside a committee of youth participants who have engaged with Ishar’s services in the past. The event will be co-designed and co-delivered with CaLD youth to ensure it reflects their voices, lived experiences, and cultural strengths. Through a creative arts activity, such as visual arts, storytelling and music, participants will explore self-expression, build confidence, and strengthen leadership skills in a supportive environment.
Beyond individual growth, the workshop will foster peer connections and collective empowerment, creating a safe space for girls to share stories, celebrate culture, and challenge barriers they face. By placing CaLD youth at the centre of planning and delivery, the project promotes youth leadership, representation, and ownership. The outcome will be a vibrant showcase of creativity, resilience, and cultural identity, helping participants feel more confident, connected, and valued within their communities.

This event is an art exhibition. What is it like to be 13 years old in twenty first century? A time period described as the Anthropocene, an epoch that recognizes the overwhelming impact humanity has had on our planet. This is a world that includes the climate crisis, artificial intelligence and social media. The tempo of life is fast and at times, seems erratic and nonsensical. Being thirteen is an age defined by fluctuation and confusion. Thirteen emerges as a mysterious and wondrous space between childhood and adulthood. It is characterised by rapid physiological and psychological change caused by cascading hormones, risk-taking, identity exploration, and seeking out novel experiences. Is the experience of being thirteen today different from previous generations? Photographer Carine Thevenau asks our future people about their experience in the world during a time of significant disruption and uncertainty. The photographic series and accompanying interviews provide visibility to our West Australian thirteen-year-olds. We are currently living through the Fourth Industrial Revolution whereby artificial intelligence is able to construct and manipulate photographic projections of ourselves. Through hand-painting the portraits Carine pauses our contemporary teenagers intime, referencing past periods of shifting tides, whilst emphasizing the consistent inevitability of transitional change.
